First of all,
I just want to share some of my experiences with Melbourne people (it includes local and other residents from other countries)...
First scene:
I remember it happened on Melbourne Day...There were a few buses operated at that time because of public holiday. Unfortunately, i had a class on that public holiday, therefore i knew the bus would come slowly than before. I was waiting at the bus stop in front of my house for more than half an hour, there was no bus at all (when normal day, the buses would arrive on scheduled time). "Oh my gosh, i have to arrive at Box Hill Bus Station earlier too, if i weren't i'll arrive late, and Lu (my lecture who are a strict person)will kill me...Oh No!" I said. I couldn't miss this subject, i'm afraid i can't get pass for this subject's mark. That is why i still stand at the bus stop and cross my fingers, i hope one (i only ask for one bus, please!) bus would come and take me to Box Hill Station, so i could take another bus route which passes my campus. Hahahaa.....45 minutes waiting, there was still no bus...
And then, there was an old car go to opposite direction from Box Hill, then it turned back to Boxhill direction and it stopped right in front of me, the driver opened his car window. He is an old man. He asked me, "Excuse me, i saw you many times waiting here for long time. I already pass this road for second time, and u still here. are u going to box hill?", i replied, "Yeah, i'm going to Box Hill". He said, "U can come with me, dear...I'll take u to Box Hill"...For one minute, i got uncertain feeling...this man is a stranger, he could have bad purpose...but, i saw his eyes, he looked nice and willing to help me....i convince my self, if there is something happen, i could run away from his car easily, he is an old man, anyway...i asked him, "Is it okay?", and he replied, "U'll be safe,darl..". After that, he took me to Box Hill. I think he knew about my hesitance, he opened the window and unlock the doors, more over he open conversation during trip. We were chit chat, he asked my name bla bla bla....also, he said he lives near my house. He was so nice and friendly. Wow!
This experience really "opens my eyes". In my home country, Indonesia, there are some people feel uncomfortable if stranger willing to help them. We always feel afraid and think, "maybe, they wants something (money) from us" or something like that. We often have Negative thinking instead of the positive ones. Perhaps, they are really willing to help. It doesn't mean we are not anticipating for the negatives one, but we can change our mind about other people. Let positive thinking comes first than the other!!!!
Itu sih minta dielus, tapi malah digampar
